Adjust rack to middle position and preheat oven to 425 degrees. Melt @butter{1%tbsp} and coat a #9x9 baking dish{}.

In a #large bowl{}, whisk @eggs{6%pieces}, @milk{2%cups}, @brown sugar{½%cups}, @sugar{1%tsp}, @cinnamon{1%tsp}, @salt{¼%tsp}, and @black pepper{pinch} until smooth.

Cut @brioche buns{12%pieces} into quarters. Dip half the pieces into the egg mixture and arrange in a single layer in the prepared dish. Evenly dollop @berry compote{1%cups} on top. Add remaining bun pieces and pour remaining egg mixture over everything.

Bake until golden and custardy in the center ~{30%minutes}.

While baking, prepare the glaze. In a #small bowl{}, whisk @crème fraîche{¼%cup}, @powdered sugar{1%cups}, and a splash of milk until drizzling.

Let the French toast bake cool ~{5%minutes}, then slice into 6 pieces. Divide between plates and drizzle generously with the glaze. Serve immediately.
