    Bring a medium pot of water to a boil. Season generously with salt . Wash and dry produce. ⏱️ 10 minutes

    Heat olive oil in a large pan over medium-high heat. Add button mushrooms ; season with salt and pepper . Cook, stirring occasionally, until browned and slightly crispy ⏱️ 6 minutes . Remove mushrooms and set aside. Add ground beef to the pan. Cook until browned, breaking up with a spoon ⏱️ 5 minutes . Drain excess fat if needed.

    Add cavatappi pasta to the boiling water. Cook, stirring occasionally, until al dente ⏱️ 10 minutes . Reserve ½ cup pasta water, then drain.

    While pasta cooks, melt garlic herb butter in the pan used for mushrooms over medium heat. Add scallions and cook until just softened ⏱️ 1 minute . Stir in flour and cook ⏱️ 30 seconds . Whisk in milk until smooth.

    Stir in cream cheese and the cooked mushrooms. Add reserved pasta water a splash at a time until the sauce is creamy and fully combined. Season to taste ⏱️ 2 minutes .
